What kind of thing can you put on your page to instantly put you on the top of Google just because you have it on your page? Nothing. Would you believe though that there are marketers out there who would like to lead you to believe there are such factors. Nothing you can do on your page will move you right to the top, but there are some things that can affect your rankings, slightly.

To start off I want to say I worry about the on page factors as late as possible. Really what will move you to the top are the offpage factors such as sites and the importance of the sites that link to you. I really don’t focus on on page factors until I am way up in the search engines. Then I start to play around to see if there is anything I can do on the site to make it better.

The factors that I think are essential to making the top ten are simple. You have to have a title with your keywords in it. There is no way to get to the top ten for a keyword unless it is in your title tag. The next thing is a keywords tag and a description tag that have my keywords in them. Then on my body text I also add the keywords that I want to rank for.

Now we do off page optimization. This is really the most important thing. You just simply keep building link after link until you are somewhere that you can find your site. Then one thing at a time you start testing on page factors. You can test different things like bolding some of your keywords in the body, or improving your keyword density and seeing what results it has.

Once you get to where you can see your site in the search engines then all you need to do is try to one up the person above you. You can do this by testing one thing at a time. Look at their page and see if they have more bold, more keywords more text, or some other tag that you do not. Add it and see if you move up, if you move down revert back to what you had.
