An Answer For: What Is A Virus?
If you own a computer, you should be aware of all the things that are floating around cyberspace that are waiting to infect it. Malicious bits of software and programs that are literally created to ruin your computer, and ruin it they will if given an opportunity. These are better known as viruses. But what is a virus?
The reason that they are called viruses makes a lot of sense. They are processes that will infect areas of your fully functional computer and cause it to, in essence, get sick and stop working in part or in whole. Much like any infection, there is always a possibility to become fatal and this is the same with computers.
While similar in nature to spyware and adware, these are not to be confused with viruses. You see, a virus exists to ruin and destroy CPUs, while adware and spyware exist to get personal information of yours for the hacker’s use. This can be for use by the individual hacker for identity theft or through a network of hacker communities for other reasons.
To show how ill-informed we truly are about just how one gets a virus, many people still believe that you only can contract a virus through a download from or viewing of a site that you don’t talk about at the dinner table. This is true in part, but not entirely. Viruses can be anywhere now, in emails, on your favorite websites, and innumerable other places online that you and many others find all the time.
The best thing that you can do to keep yourself free of infection is to invest in some anti-virus software. While there are some free programs, you might benefit from dropping a few dollars towards keeping your computer safe. To top it off, some of these programs are combining efforts to stop viruses, adware and spyware all on one convenient program. Some names to check out in anti-virus protection are: McAfee, Kaspersky, and AVG.
Now that you have a pretty good idea of what a virus is and how it’s quite easy to get one, you should take some measures to get yourself some protection from them and all of the other hazards of Internet access.
It is imperative that you take measures to protect your pc from malicious software and learn exactly what spyware is to help.
